Robot Teachers in South Korea

After just a few months of trials, South Korea plans to go ahead with robotic teaching assistants (dubbed “R-Learning”) nationwide. The government will invest 1 billion KRW ($8.69 million USD) in 2011 to expand the system to 500 preschools. By 2013 the system will be used in 8000 early childhood education centers and could be rolled out in elementary schools as well. Video below. Read the full story at metro.co.Continue

Education and Innovation Panel Discussion

Radio NZ and Auckland Museum recently hosted a series of panel discussions on innovation. The third, on Education and Innovation, featured Professor John Hattie, Head of Education at Auckland University, best-selling author Gordon Dryden and trailblazing principal Charmaine Pountney, chaired by Finlay McDonald. It's a thought-provoking exploration of current education practice and National Standards.

Te Kahui Whetu

Kia ora koutou


There are around 150 members currently attending Te Kahui Whetu in Rotorua which is halfway through at the moment. There have been a couple of good presentation linking the Vision for the Teaching Profession and the claims and rhetoric around these that have formed thesettlement response from the Ministry.


We need to urge all our members to read the Vision paper and respond as schools and individuals to the threats in this paper.

Tauranga teacher gets teachers cheap holidays!

A Tauranga teacher has managed to get "teachers a break" after campaigning for discounted holidays for teachers from Air New Zealand. Good on him!

Well done Auckland Principals

Well done to the Auckland Principals for a taking a stand. The PD for National Standards in my area has also been 'patchy' in its quality. The facilitators are often presenting information they do not support and are not able to answer the most important questions.
