Teaching Matters

NZEI network for Primary teachers

The Primary negotiating team were back at the table yesterday.  The core issues of concern to you the members, remuneration and the attack on our career structures, were still not addressed.  All we are asking is for a fair and reasonable settlement.  There was no indication that the ministry is prepared to move on these issues.  The National Executive will be meeting next Friday and Saturday to determine what should be recommended to members as our next steps.  It is great to know that you are standing firm behind us.  When you join the dots and see the attack that has been launched on early childhood and the undermining of them as a highly qualified professional group you do wonder what is next for us.  If 80% qualified is good enough for four year olds will it filter up to the fives?

Hi Francie

There is nothing fair and resonable about this government especially in relation to solving the real issues in education . I would believe that for most NZEI members it is the attack on basic conditions of work - the latest changes to the employment law shows the real agenda of this centre right government . I was most interested -and pissed off when watching Tolley on Q and A today . Clearly the concept of performance pay is still on the agenda - probably most likely - at this stage through the units - the latest Teacher Councils release on teacher reg criteria could also be used - interesting times !!
