Teaching Matters

NZEI network for Primary teachers

Operation Orange Day is May 21. It's a day for NZEI members to focus on the call for a trail of National Standards. In the lead up to May 21 all members are asked to collect 10 signatures on the Trial the Standards Not Our Kids petition. On the 21st members will be holding Orange themed events, wearing orange, eating orange morning tea, flying orange balloons and more.

What ideas do you have for Operation Orange Day activities in your school?

I can't wait to get into my orange trial the standards tee shirt and share some lovely orange drizzle muffins with my staff. Orange balloons and streamers around the staff room. But... before they get to eat on Friday this week I am again giving them all the petition sheets in there baskets and inviting them with an orange invitation to morning tea with me and there signed sheet!
I am, similarly, going to put orange balloons around our school and the teachers are going to wear orange and bring a plate of orange food for morning tea. I love the idea of orange invitations! I might do that too, and attach a copy of the petition to each :-).
