Anne Tolley Q&A

I thought that Guyon Espiner was very soft on Anne Tolley during his Q&A interview on Sunday. There were so many answers he could have challenged if he had prepared more thoroughly, however the high point for me was his suggestion: "If police are paid considerably more than teachers, aren't you spending money at the wrong end of the problem?"

The chaos continues...

The Council for Educational Research has confirmed what teachers have been claiming all along, National Standards don’t work. Failing 65% of children, of whom 15% are actually working above their age group norms, makes no sense and strengthens the view that the standards should have been trialled before being forced onto our schools. Those Principals who have attempted to protect children from this mess are just behaving in a professionally ethical manner and to be publicly chastised for doing…See More

My letter in reply to statements from Anne Tolley in the Southland Times (29/5/10)

Dear SirI was very concerned with the information being presented by the Minister ofEducation regarding National Standards in Saturday's paper(29/5/10).Parents have been badly misled since the initial implementation of the Standards andchildren will suffer the consequences of the unprofessional process that isbeing followed. The initial claim from the Minister was that the Standards will help bring up thetail of underachievement, what is now being delivered has no directrelationship to the…See More

Dear Sir

Education regarding National Standards in Saturday's paper(29/5/10).

Parents have been badly misled since the initial implementation of the Standards and
children will suffer the consequences of the unprofessional process that is

National Standards Implementation Concerns

A letter I have sent to the Southland Times:

Dear Sir

Education Minister, Anne Tolley, is determined to force her Education Standards onto our children in a manner that flies against common sense and the advice of our most highly regarded education experts. Principals and teachers are not against standards, as we already have assessments that provide us with expected achievement levels for different ages, what we are against is having to implement a system that has not been… Continue
