Hi TeamIsn't it interesting that we can't get the government to offer us even 2% when the Secretary of education has gained a 4% increase. I guess this exemplifies the governments attitude to the workers. We have a world class education system because of us the wonderfully dedicated, knowledgeable teachers. We need to get the message across that this stystem is under threat. Please do all you can to encourage the staff in your schools and centres and your communities to attend the Saturday…See More

Negotiations

The Primary negotiating team were back at the table yesterday.  The core issues of concern to you the members, remuneration and the attack on our career structures, were still not addressed.  All we are asking is for a fair and reasonable settlement.  There was no indication that the ministry is prepared to move on these issues.  The National Executive will be meeting next Friday and Saturday to determine what should be recommended to members as our next steps.  It is great to know that you are…See More

Negotiation consultation

Hi,As leader of the negotiations team it is great to see the feedback from so many schools to the government's claim. Their claim for splitting the units and allowing them to be fixed term would undermine all the work that has been done over the last few years to establish career pathways. This is a critical time for teachers. We need to show our belief in our own worth for the sake of the students. New Zealand can not afford to loose high quality teachers because they are not fairly…See More

Hi

This is a plee to all of you to attend the fairness at work march and rally in your area this Saturday. There is currently a concerted effort to undermine the rights of workers. The changes the government is proposing will particularly affect the poorly paid and our support staff. Remember the Support Staff Rallies last year? They not only made a point but also were great fun and very afirming to see so many people supporting us all as workers. Well Saturday will be the same. Hope…

Negotiations

Hi to all you active members and leaders.

It is so good to have so many of you actively involved in the work of your union. There has been a tremendous response from the teachers' meetings. The replies were quite clear that you believed that the ministry's offer was not good enough and in no way recognised the work of teachers in ensuring the high quality public education system that we have. Members were very concerned at the threat to career structures posed by the suggstion that…
