Teaching Matters

NZEI network for Primary teachers

At the same time as claiming to want to lift literacy and numeracy the government has cut millions of dollars from early childhood education, targeted at the highest quality centres, the ones employing the highest numbers of qualified and registered teachers. Now centres face the choice of either cutting numbers of qualified staff or raising fees. If you have children in early childhood education this will effect you and your community. Please write to local media and government MPs and express your concern. You can find out more at NZEI's early childhood education website ecetogether.

This devaluing of our teachers is going to have massive ramifications for education in the future. I can't believe that after all the hard work early child has put in to move forward into the future, this government has chosen to take such a big step backwards. This will hurt our childre, the future!
