Teaching Matters

NZEI network for Primary teachers

Hi,

As leader of the negotiations team it is great to see the feedback from so many schools to the government's claim. Their claim for splitting the units and allowing them to be fixed term would undermine all the work that has been done over the last few years to establish career pathways. This is a critical time for teachers. We need to show our belief in our own worth for the sake of the students. New Zealand can not afford to loose high quality teachers because they are not fairly recognised. We need to all stand up for our rights and for the public education system. We are back in negotiations next week and it is good to know that we have the strength of the teachers and our communities behind us. If your school has not had a meeting and forwarded your decisions please do so in the next few days as well as returning the effective leadership posters.

Cheers Francie Guy

Keep up the great work Francie and the team. I have just run our WSR Training for Ashley and am running our school meeting tomorrow. You have lots of support. Teachers are up in arms and looks like they might be willing to fight for all of those things that we fought long and hard for.
