A Sunday Star Times article indicates that the Minister of Education is upset that teachers want access to professional development on one of the most significant changes in education in recent years, National Standards.
Education Minister Anne Tolley says parents are being sold short by what she calls "political malice". Some schools were still fighting the controversial National Standards, with one sending Tolley a bill for training days, and another demanding teacher-only days for staff to get up to speed.
