The Orange Team, from the NZEI Waikato Branch, talking with Tim McIndoe our local MP about the impact of National Standards. We took along a large cake to share and to say to Tim that the trialling of National Standards was a "piece of cake", really.

Nice touch taking the cake! What response did you get from McIndoe?
Tim McIndoe was receptive - he listened. He's been into some of our local schools and has pictures from Hamilton West School on his office wall. We took the liberty of commenting on the cuts to EC funding. He was insistent that the government had made a significant contribution in this area. We were equally insistent that the curriculum was at risk and that a 100% qualified registered staffing was the only way to go for the future for our children and their learning. At that point we asked Tim to cut the cake, with our comment that "Trialling the National Standards would be a piece of Cake".
